Family Constellation is based on the principle that every family has a natural order to it. This order can be disturbed - for example, when an aunt has been excluded for moralistic reasons, or when a father is treated as a child and not respected for his rightful position within the family matrix. A child born into the family system later on, unconsciously, and out of love, might identify with such a family member and take over his feelings, and even go so far as to live out his or her destiny. As a result, the child, without even knowing why, becomes disconnected from himself and others, afraid to live fully.

By choosing other group members to represent family members, you create the constellation of your family - either your original or your present family. You see in what way you are identified with other family members and burdened by their feelings and attitudes. Through rearrangements within the constellation and through speaking simple sentences, you discover a new, more natural and rightful place within the family system, and reconnect to a deeper and more wholesome love. Then, rather than being a burden to you, your origins are experienced as a source of strength.
